Viewing Voices Oral Histories
The Power of History to Enrich the Past and Enlighten the FutureWelcome to Viewing Voices!
Meet our Team: Dr. Susan Resnik, President and Founder, oral historians Jane Meyers (left) and Annie Duval (right).
We use audio and video technology to create oral histories for our clients who include individuals, families, communities, organizations, institutions and corporations. As experienced oral historians, when we interview our clients we hold conversations so they can relate their life stories in the form of conversational narratives.
What Clients Say About Viewing Voices
“Dr. Susan Resnik is simply ‘the best’ there is!”
“Since 2006, the Adams Oral History Project at San Diego State University has had the good fortune of working with oral historian Dr. Susan Resnik to build an impressive array of oral history testimony pertaining to the history of San Diego State University over the last 50 years. The oral history project now makes publicly accessible oral histories of former SDSU presidents, distinguished alumni, emeritus faculty, and well-known administrators. Thanks to Dr. Resnik, nearly 100 hours of audio interviews as well as interview transcripts are available for listening.
“Dr. Resnik received her doctorate from Columbia University in Public Health and Applied Anthropology and completed a dissertation based upon more than 70 oral histories she conducted with the hemophilia community throughout the United States and Canada.
“She conducts high quality highly informative and deeply personal interviews. Her research beforehand is impeccable and she asks the right questions as a result.

“At first I didn’t think I would know what to say and I I didn’t think it was important. Then when Susan began to ask me questions and I started to remember so many special moments and feelings, it became fun. She always kept me in charge of what would be recorded and I signaled her when I decided not to include certain subjects.
“When I saw the completed album, I could not believe how beautiful it was. I am proud to share it with my friends here at The Manors of Scottsdale. My children and their families think it’s pretty special too. Learning that his grandfather was in the Czar of Russia’s marching band was new to my younger son. I am so glad that Susan worked with me on this project.”
“The Oviatt Library at California State University, Northridge, has utilized the staff at Viewing Voices several times over the past few years. We have been extremely happy with the results. The historians have been professional, courteous, and responsive. The oral histories that have been produced for us have been of the highest quality. We would highly recommend Viewing Voices to any organization or individual who needs to document or preserve the past through interviews and oral history projects.”
